Integration of some twenty ESAT workers with disabilities at our coffee and chocolate production sites
Company profitable enough to last but also to invest in new ships and new production sites on the coast
Launch of our first cargo sailboat generating carbon savings of over 95% (with autonomous renewable energy production system). Transport of organic coffee, cocoa and wine
New chocolate factory in Morlaix, France, operational with over 230 KW of solar panels, energy recovery systems, heat pumps, double-flow ventilation and excellent thermal insulation of the building
Construction and commissioning of Grain de Sail II, which will enable us to move towards 100% carbon-free transport for our green coffees and cocoa.
Our first cargo sailboat is a strong ecological symbol, enabling us to reduce the carbon emissions of shipping raw materials for our chocolate factory and roastery by over 95%.
In addition, the transformation process must also be improved. That’s why Grain de Sail optimizes its production units energy-efficient (reinforced insulation, thermal energy recovery systems, heat pumps, photovoltaic panels).
We are also careful to avoid unnecessary travel. We also encourage teleworking for support functions. Whenever possible, we give preference to local or regional partners. As far as product distribution is concerned, we voluntarily reduce the radius of goodwill to less than 500 km from our production units. Our growth is therefore controlled (or even slowed down in some cases) with the aim of limiting carbon emissions from road transport.
The social dimension for Grain de Sail is logically expressed through our employees, producers and consumers.
Our partnerships with organizations dedicated to the integration of disabled workers are one of the cornerstones of our social approach, as is our commitment to fairly remunerating our employees and suppliers (particularly farmers in Latin America).
In Latin America, we select our raw materials first and foremost for their organoleptic qualities, but also and above all from small producers (family farms associated with local cooperatives). We maintain respectful relations with our producers (multi-year contracts, fair remuneration that takes into account the local cost of living) and also maintain jobs and added value locally in the producing countries by supplying us not with cocoa beans, but with cocoa mass (roasted and ground beans).
We also intend to launch our own fair trade process with our producers in the near future (creation of an annual fair trade budget dedicated to the purchase of agricultural equipment, school supplies, medicines and funding for technical assistance to our producers), which will therefore rely on the transport capacity of Grain de Sail vessels between the United States and the Dominican Republic.
Finally, all this work would be in vain if, at the time of distributing our products in France, the price of a tablet was beyond the reach of the majority of consumers. We set ourselves the target of affordable sales prices (less than €3.00 incl. VAT per 100 g tablet), which is also why we make our products available simultaneously in small grocery stores and supermarkets.
Due to its integrated business model, Grain de Sail must simultaneously invest in both onshore production facilities and vessels.
