To mark the 10th anniversary of its chocolate bars, the Breton company Grain de Sail has teamed up with Finistère artist and Official Painter of the Navy, Jonathan Florent, for an artistic collaboration focusing on the sea and humanity.
Entitled “Cold Lights on Grain de Sail II,” the work was created especially for this anniversary. It is inspired by the sailing cargo ship Grain de Sail II, an emblem of maritime transport by sail, and the human adventure that accompanies it on a daily basis.
The project was initiated by Juliette, product marketing manager at Grain de Sail, who wanted to tell the company’s story in a different way.
“To mark this anniversary, we wanted to call on a local artist and tell
our story in a different way, while highlighting people, the sea, and work.”
“It was a fellow sailor who showed me Jonathan’s work. I was immediately captivated by his world, and even more so when I learned that he was from Plougasnou. It was exactly what I had imagined. I called him, and he accepted right away.”
For Jonathan Florent, this project represented “a fun game, a way to break out of his routine.”
Based in Plougasnou, trained in drawing, comic books, and illustration, the artist now develops a style of painting inspired by the sea, sailing, boats, and a sensitive relationship with nature.
“I have always been contemplative about my surroundings, especially Morlaix Bay. I have always loved losing myself in the light,” he confides.
To accompany this collaboration, Grain de Sail and Jonathan Florent are also offering a series of videos on YouTube, allowing viewers to discover the artist’s career, his approach, and a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the work.
“Lumières froides sur Grain de Sail II” will be featured on the packaging of the dark chocolate bar with fleur de sel for one year, marking the 10th anniversary of Grain de Sail bars with a local, human, and socially conscious artistic creation.
